Everyone Should Have A File of Life!

What is a File of Life?

A File of Life is a red magnetic pouch that you hang on your refrigerator door. The form, inside the pouch, allows you to list your medical history and emergency contacts.  EMTs are quite familiar with the File of Life.  In an emergency, the File of Life saves precious time and speaks for you when you cannot speak for yourself.

Why do I need a File of Life?

During and emergency event, this will be helpful to you and your
caregivers as it is:

  • Difficult to think in emergencies.
  • Critical that emergency personnel have this information to
    render proper treatment.
  • Important to have current medication information
  • Bring this with you to the Doctor’s Office and ask the doctor or assistant to help you update information
  • Bring this with you to the Hospital.

How does the File of Life work?

Fill the form out in pencil – this way you will always be able to make changes.

Review your information every 6 months or when there are changes in your condition or medications.

Place the File of Life on your refrigerator door - EMTs know to look for them.
